The third grade students in PG county participate in the Students and Sunfish Program as part of the science curriculum. The students are given a fish tank for the classroom where they raise sunfish and tadpoles for half of the school year. The students are responsible for feeding the fish, monitoring the temperature of the water, checking the pH balance of the water, and checking the nitrate and nitrite levels of the water. By the end of the program, the students take a trip to the Clear Water Nature Center (located in PG County), to release the fish back into their natural habitat. Before the animals are released, the students conduct the same tests on the water that they did on the classroom water. They compare the data of the natural habitat to the habitat that the fish were in in the classroom.
The videos will support the MWEE for the students. It will help the students to understand the differences with the natural habitat and the artificial habitats.
