Discussion Questions for Key Characteristic #3: Collaborative and Inclusive

  1. How is your organization and programs valuing and incorporating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion?

  2. Conflict is often seen as negative but it can be really productive. How has your organizations learned from conflict?

  3. Mary and Micah do a nice job of calling out that different organizations and institutions are going to have distinct goals when collaborating on a project and that it can be helpful to lay out what those goals are and to find the potential strengths within each organization to chart the path forward for meeting their shared goals. How do you or your organization go about identifying partners to work with (with inclusivity in mind) and then what strategies are you using to make sure that you have the alignment in your visions while also celebrating your differences? 

  4. Annemarie talks about how their team is working toward building inclusive professional development. How are you or your organization building inclusivity into professional learning opportunities?

  5. Kara shares about some of the activities that they do in their teacher professional development that examines biases (5 why’s). What are you or your organization doing in your professional developments that is supporting teachers discovering biases? What feedback are you getting? What changes are you seeing in practice?

  6. Kara also talked about how action projects can start to get to some of the root causes of environmental issues and that doesn’t always look like a traditional tree planting or invasive species removal. How are you or your organization working with students to discover root causes in their investigations while also balancing that important aspect of making sure that students know that change is possible and that they can be a part of it? 

  7. In the first and second Community Engagement videos we learned how organizations were making sure staff and role models represented the student population and they were centering on hyper local environmental issues. Annemarie also shared some of the activities and changes they made to their curriculum to be more culturally relevant. How are you or your organization building cultural relevance into your MWEEs?
