2018 Tips for online component

2018 Climate Change Academy Tips

  1. If you need help with the site, contact Bart Merrick.

    1. 410-295-3142

    2. bart.merrick@noaa.gov

  2. If you have questions about the Academy, including June logistics, contact Pat Harcourt.

    1. 443-225-7274

    2. pharcourt@umces.edu

  3. NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office has provided access to the learning management system upon which the Academy on-line component is built (cbexapp.noaa.gov). We will refer to the system as CBEx. As you work on the on-line component, consider whether or not you could use some version of this course with your students.

  4. In various spots on CBEx, you will see an encircled question mark. You can click on those question marks to get more information about a feature.

  5. Most of our assignments have a check box to the right of the assignment title. Boxes with dotted borders will be automatically checked when you complete some task (such as opening an assignment or posting to a discussion). Boxes with solid borders are ones that you are able to check off yourself. (You can see even more information about that by clicking on the question mark icon!)

  6. When you download documents to read, save the files someplace you can find them again, so you don’t have to keep downloading them.

  7. Guiding questions. Each Session has guiding questions listed at the beginning of the page.

    1. As you start working on each Session, jot down some notes related to the questions. What do you already know? What do you want to learn?

    2. At the end of each Session, ask yourself if you think that you can now answer the guiding questions and if your additional questions have been answered. If not, consider using the Discussion forum to check in with others or bring those questions with you to the August in-person meetings.

  8. As you work through the on-line component, you may want to create a list of resources you find the most useful and/or want to use with your students/visitors.

  9. The Implementation Plan Development page contains variety of resources including education standards and climate change misconceptions. These resources can be accessed at any time throughout the on-line component. They are not specifically tied to a content session.
