Implementation Plan/MWEE Submission

Opened: Monday, June 25, 2018, 12:00 AM
Due: Tuesday, August 7, 2018, 12:00 AM
Make a submission

Use this Assignment activity to submit your climate change teaching/implementation/MWEE plan.

At the beginning of the course we discussed the implementation plan/MWEE and during the in-person component of the course we are using the MWEE model to organize the programming, focusing primarily on the MWEE Essential Elements.  For the submission of the final implementation plan/MWEE we are encouraging you to:

  • Submit a completed Environmental Literacy Model detailing your plan for integrating climate change topics and how you plan to approach the Essential Elements of a MWEE (Sample ELMs are provided in the Implementation Plan section of this course):
    • Issue Definition
    • Outdoor Field Experience
    • Synthesis and Conclusions
    • Action Projects
  • Submit any planning toolbox templates that you may have used in developing your ELM
  • Submit drafts of lessons if available

Again, We know that your school/institution may require you to organize your lessons using a specific lesson plan format and that is fine as the MWEE template is not a lesson plan rather it is a way of organizing learning about Environmental Literacy, Earth systems, and climate change content.

That being said, if the ELM/MWEE model does not work for you, feel free to use submit your plan in whatever format will work for you.  The big goal here is that you all have an opportunity to think about how you can integrate climate change content within your programming.

You may submit up to 6 files through this assignment. If you need to submit more files, contact Pat Harcourt via email (pharcourt@umces.edu).

We would also like you to answer the following questions, either within your plan or in a separate file.

When do you plan to teach your lesson(s)?

Why did you select the topic/lesson/approach?

What aspects of the plan are you most proud of or excited about?

Are there particular aspects of the plan that concern you?

NOTE: Lessons that are part of the ELM do not need to be original, rather the ELM is a tool for organizing the lessons/activities in a way that is supportive of a MWEE.  Additionally, ELMs can be develop collaboratively and do not need to be a solo effort.

SECOND NOTE: In the planning toolbox there is a MWEE Audit tool.  It is suggested that you review this tool as you are developing your implementation plan as it will give you a good idea about what we are looking for.

THIRD NOTE: The completed ELM/Implementation Plan is due by August 7 when we are planning an in-person meeting for the sharing of ELMs.  On the course we will be providing time to work on the ELMs. By the end of the in-person course we will ask you to share a "tweet" about your ELM/Implementation Plan
