The extreme temperatures that we experienced recently impacted our weather condition. The increased precipitation during winter and spring and as well as the increased average temperature during summer brought too much rain in certain areas of Maryland. More intense rainfall from the combined effect of global climate change and localized factors resulted in an increase peak flooding in some areas. It did not only affected the residents but damaged some infrastructures and also the aquatic ecosystem due to runoff and warmer temperatures.

A potential MWEE would be having students conduct an investigation on the water quality/health of a local stream. Students will construct an explanation of how the pH of an aquatic system affects living things. At the end of the lesson students will develop an action plan, which will improve water quality in their local watershed.
