In terms of Smyrna, I have already mentioned how changes in flooding occurrence/patterns may be a local impact. Changes in erosion patterns may also be present. After reading through the materials associated with this unit, I am also reminded of how climate change may affect the large amount of agricultural activities in the area.  Perhaps changes in crop production are already evident in Smyrna. A few students may have experienced this or know someone who has. If not, projections of these changes could be made. Students could learn about this issue, its history, and its implications (Issue Definition). Outdoor field experience may involve speaking with farmers and/or directly observing farms. Ahead of time, students would plan the questions they would ask and the observations that they would perform. They would then synthesize their background information and field evidence to form a relevant conclusion.
