I think that many times we view insects as pests, but we do not think of the ways that they benefit us. I would like to do activities withy students where they learn about the impact that bees have on the ecosystem. This may show them that although many people fear bees, they are instrumental in making sure that flowers are pollinated. Hopefully their knowledge about the decrease in the bee populations will cause them to want to create change. In doing this they may create posters that tell others how they can help bees. Also I would encourage them to write letters to local farmers inquiring about their use of pesticides that harm bees. If it were possible to take them on field trips I would suggest taking them to a local honey farm so they can see bees in their hives and see the work that they do. Finally I would have students plant and maintain a wild flower garden so that the bees would have flowers to gather nectar from.
